Christopher's Kenya Mission Trip Testimony
Around a year before we left for the trip to Kenya the Lord showed me that it would be 2018 that we would go to Africa. At the time we were not even sure where in Africa we would go but we continued to pray. As the months passed the Lord led us in exactly the path that He desired for us and I can say that there is no way that we could have such an amazing trip without Him.
During our time in Kenya we spent seven days in the towns of Naivasha and Gilgil and three days in the town of Kisii. We were blessed to be able to share the Word of God in multiple churches and with many different people. We even held a one-day marriage seminar as one of the pastors had told us of how there is a lack of understanding around what true biblical marriage was. I will say that in each opportunity we had to share it was the Holy Spirit who was guiding us. We were also blessed by the hospitality of the people who we meet with. No matter which church we went to we were greeted with open arms and a heart of love. It was truly inspiring and touching to see how much the people desired to meet us and to hear what the Lord had to speak through us. We know that this has nothing to do with us but instead, with the love that Jesus has placed within our hearts for our brothers and sisters in Christ. I can say with certainty that we were blessed so much by the people we meet there and it will be something that I will never forget. |
There are two things however that truly struck my heart. The first was the hunger that the people had for the Word of God. It was apparent that they did not take belief in Jesus as something trivial. They are entirely sincere when it came to learning about the Lord. No matter what the topic was or what the Lord had led us to speak about, they would sit and listen for as long as we would speak. They had such a desire to know more about the Lord and more about His Word.
The second thing that truly touched me was to see the happiness of the children. As we would walk through the villages we would constantly see the children playing. Often, as they realized we were there, they would come to walk along with us. They constantly smiled and played. They would want us to hold their hands and play with them. They were so thankful for anything that they had. Some would be playing with old worn out bike tires, others with makeshift balls made out of old clothes, and others with rusty metal cans. All the time as they walked with us and played they would have huge smiles on their faces and anyone would have thought that they were the happiest children in the world. Yet, if you were to look at their living conditions you would wonder how they could have such joy. They were truly thankful for everything that they had and they took nothing for granted. This was an eye opening thing for me and it changed my perspective of what it means to be content.
The experience of going on this trip is one that has changed me. God has shown me more about the calling that He has upon my life and the things that He is going to call me to do in the future. While there is no doubt that the work will be hard and there will be a lot of it, I am thankful that the Lord provides such encouragement along the way. To be able to meet brothers and sisters in Christ and see their hunger for the Lord and contentment in Christ is a true blessing. I believe that the Lord will be bringing me back to see these brothers and sisters again one day and I also know that the Lord will be calling my wife and I to go to many more places across Africa and also the world.
